Bridge Design Competition

As part of the NTU Bridge Design Competition 2017, I worked in a team of two to design a bridge made out of balsa wood and nylon string. The bridge had to be as light as possible but had to carry as much load as possible. Our main concept for the bridge was to transfer loads to the supports through the shortest possible path possible. We leveraged nylon strings to reduce the weight of the overall bridge and to reduce the effect length of the members, preventing buckling in the compression members.

We were awarded 2nd place out of 33 international teams.
